One of the objectives of the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum is to promote Buddhism through the humanistic dimension. Since its opening, the Buddha Museum has held various forums and conferences to enhance communication between scholars and experts in the discussion of contemporary issues such as education, modern technology and environmental protection. In 2015, Mayer-Schonberger, Professor of Oxford University and co-author of Big Data, was invited to speak at the Hsing Yun World Humanities Forum held at the Buddha Museum.

In 2016, the Second Biannual Cross-Strait Museums Meeting was held at the Museum gathering museum curators from China and Taiwan in the discussion on contemporary museums. This year, presidents from over 40 universities in 16 countries with Buddhismrelated courses were invited to the University Presidents Forum to discuss educational development. Following the forum, the Hakka Cultural Museums Alliance Annual Meeting and Forum was held at the Museum to discuss the preservation of Hakka culture. The Buddha Museum has now turned into an international platform for educational and cultural exchange between various groups of people.
