Lights on the Cliff—Protection and Inheritance of Grottoes in Sichuan and Chongqing & the Art Exhibition of Li Yunyan

As a treasure in the Chinese civilization history, grottoes in Sichuan and Chongqing enjoy equal popularity with that in Dunhuang, Yungang, Longmen and Maijishan. They have surprised all visitors with the striking scale, intact conservation and elaborate arts. In particular, those classics in the history of arts have revealed the profound and extensive Chinese civilization and the spiritual character of the Chinese culture. For decades, to protect and carry on the treasures of China, all departments and individuals engaged in cultural relics protection as well as those far-sighted personages have made tremendous efforts. The exhibition held this time will present us a series of innovative and fruitful work carried out by the Chinese mainland in this field, involving archaeology, restoration and explanation, in the forms of photos and multimedia. At the same time, visitors will have the chance to appreciate the 108 art works by Professor Li Yunyan from the Southwest University for Nationalities during the tough ten years in the grottoes in Sichuan and Chongqing. It is noteworthy that via the combination of cultural heritage protection and modern artistic creation and education, what we have done in recent years in cultural heritage protection and reactivation with the social forces will be better embodied. Professor Li Yunyan shall be a typical in this field.
