Chen Ching-Jung was born in 1934 in Changhua. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of National Taiwan Normal University, Musashino Art University, and the Tokyo University of the Arts. He has served as a professor and has been conferred the title of Emeritus Professor at National Taiwan Normal University. He was awarded a silver prize in oil painting, a bronze prize in oil painting, and was given an honorable mention at the Salon of French Artists. In addition, he was awarded the Golden Duke Award, the Wu Sanlian Literary Award, and the Wenxin Award Silver Medal.

He specializes in oil paintings, drawings, and prints, and has also produced many large frescos and mosaic inlays. His works are very diverse, using colors of low intensity and rich tones, in a delicate and quiet style, and a surrealistic mood, making him a pioneer of surrealism in Taiwan.

Professor Chen has devoted his life to artistic creation and education. He is persistent in his ideals and pursues perfection in his creations.

This exhibition features a selection of Professor Chen’s Buddhist-related works, which he has accumulated over the years, as well as works featuring subjects ranging from beautiful women to beggars, and places spanning from a crowded cafe to a solemn concert.
