University Presidents Forum

The University Presidents Forum 2017 was held from 3rd to 8th November at the Fo Guang Shan Monastery, gathering university presidents and academic scholars from over 40 universities from in 16 countries including University of Cambridge, University of California, Berkeley, University of Hamburg, Universiteit Antwerpen, University of Delhi, Vietnam National University, University of Tokyo, and Uiduk University. This forum, held annually by Fo Guang Shan, aims to encourage interactions between different universities and schools related to Buddhist studies.



During the forum, participants visited the International Book Fair cum Vegetarian Expo where 50 Water and Cloud Mobile Libraries were on display. Venerable Tzu Hui, Deputy Chairperson of the Nanhua University Board of Directors, explained that the mobile libraries are driven to remote schools to encourage students to read. Volunteers are enrolled to do storytelling and perform magic shows.


The tour began with the 50 Water and Cloud Water Mobile Libraries lined up along the Path to the Buddhahood. After witnessing the mobile libraries, the participants gathered at under the Big Tree to watch a storytelling performance. The tour concluded in the Main Hall where Venerable Ru Chang, the Director of the Buddha Museum, introduced the art exhibits of “Lights on the Cliff—Protection and Inheritance of Grottoes in Sichuan and Chongqing & the Art Exhibition of Li Yunyan.”
