Fo Guang Yuan Awards “Blissful Happiness” to Young Artists

On 10th June, the award ceremony for the Twelfth International Fo Guang Yuan Young Artist Award “Blissful Happiness” was held in the Buddha Museum. The award was handed out to over 220 children, who attended the ceremony with their families. Venerable Master Hsing Yun made a surprise appearance to congratulate the winners. Venerable Hui Chuan noted that the children’s drawings illustrated the harmony within the family and society, which was what Humanistic Buddhism had emphasized this whole time. Venerable Ru Chang, the curator of Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery, said that Venerable Master Hsing Yun attached great importance to education. The theme this time is happiness, and through it, we hope visitors can see and understand what makes children happy.

There are five categories in this competition, kindergarten, first and second grades, third and fourth grades, fifth and sixth grades, and junior high school. The winner of the kindergarten group is Yu Ji-Gang who named his drawing “Take a Picture with White Elephant Happily”. It was based on a picture that he took with the White Elephant in front of the Front Hall while visiting the Buddha Museum. Yu’s mother said that he never took drawing classes, so when she saw what he drew, she was amazed.

The 450 pieces of award-winning drawings that were selected from 14,000 entries will be displayed along the 2F Art Walkway in the Main Hall until 15th July. They will then be moved to the Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery in Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, and the US. We hope to share these marvelous drawings with the entire world.
