About New Year Festival

In 1980, the Fo Guang Shan Monastery began hosting the New Year Festival of Light and Peace. Over the past 39 years, the festival has featured various displays of themed lanterns, exhibitions of flower arrangements and rock carvings, fireworks, Buddhist New Year blessings, delicious vegetarian cuisine, and art exhibitions. It has become an important annual event.

Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s New Year message for 2021 is “Cultivate a Heart that Blooms in All Seasons.” In the Year of the Ox, may we practice diligently for the blooming of wisdom all year round.

Due to the rise of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Fo Guang Shan has announced on January 20th to cancel the 2021 “Light Shines on the Universe” fireworks display and to postpone the “Auspicious Stars” drone light show. We will fully cooperate with the government's regulations in implementing epidemic prevention measures including measurement of body temperature, wearing face masks, and maintaining social distancing.

Fo Guang Shan monastics will devote themselves to spiritual cultivation, and we invite everyone to practice the Three Acts of Goodness and vegetarianism.

Please go to the official website of Fo Guang Shan and make an online prayer for the world and for the early elimination of the epidemic. May everyone have peace and good health.
