Philosophy of the Buddha Museum

Venerable Master Hsing Yun says, "The Buddha Museum is a historic construction that is made for all human beings. The museum belongs to everyone and anybody can come to visit. It is a place of culture and education. Visitors, be they individuals, families, schools or organizations, are free to gather and learn here."

Development Goals of the Buddha Museum

To present Buddhism through arts and culture

By inviting artists and theater performances or group performances home and abroad, the Museum presents arts and culture through opera, dance, folklore, cultural relics, archeology, painting, sculpture, calligraphy, photography, intangible cultural heritage. These art forms show truth, goodness and beauty, and flame up the light of people's hearts with the richness of cultural exhibitions and performances. The majestic carvings of Buddha statues, artistic architecture and three-dimensional reliefs all reflect the approachability of the Humanistic Buddhism, inspiring the wisdom of the public and understanding the preciousness of life.

To present Buddhism through motion pictures and movies

Venerable Master Hsing Yun integrated the use of modern technology in presenting Buddhism when Buddha Museum was established, these include the 4D animation film of "The Life of the Buddha" & "The Poor Girl's Lamp", and the 3D film of "One Stroke Calligraphy". The interactive " Three Goodness Theater" showcases education through entertainment. The Museum is AR facility, and the 360-degree circular theater in the Buddhist Ocean Journeys exhibition allows visitors to better appreciate the beauty of Buddhism.

To present Buddhism through humanistic dimensions

As Venerable Master Hsing Yun propagates Humanistic Buddhism, each building is a facility designed considerably. The Home of Joy and Celebration, which is located within the Five Harmonies Pagoda, holds family events from weddings to birthday celebrations, and it is hoped that through these ceremonies it can bring joy to the family. In the Humanistic Horizon of Twin Pavilion, visitors can enjoy heart-warming and comfortable Tea Chan session. Others activities such as sutra transcription and circumambulating the stupas on the Big Buddha Terrace, meditation in the shrines, and the promotion of vegetarianism, are all related to our daily lives.

To present Buddhism through international dynamics

Important events such as, "Buddha's Birthday Celebration", "International Book Fair and Vegetarian Expo", "When Buddha Meets the Gods", and "New Year Festival of Light and Peace" are held annually. The Buddha Museum also earned TripAdvisor's Hall of Fame Award and has been recognized as a Traveler's Choice award-winner. Numbers international cruise tourists visit the Museum, and it has been featured in one of the international tourist's landmarks. Furthermore, by co-curating exhibitions and academic workshops with international museums, the Buddha Museum becomes an important platform in international cultural education.
