Museum of Buddhist Underground Palaces

Besides enshrining the Buddha’s relics, the Buddha Museum has been specially designed to house 48 underground palaces to preserve a wide variety of artifacts. A palace will be opened every 100 years, so that future generations may appreciate the objects left from our time. In this way, our culture may be preserved and passed down. With this in mind, the President of Aurora Group, Chen Yung-Tai, and his wife, Pai Yu-Yeh, donated 134 artifacts from their collection of underground palace treasures. This resulted in the construction of the Museum of Buddhist Underground Palaces, whose aim is to connect the past, present, and future. Alongside a model of Shaanxi’s Famen Temple underground palace, the artifacts discovered there have been faithfully reproduced in this exhibition. They are displayed along with other Buddhist treasures.

The objective of this exhibition is to teach people about Buddhist culture, art, and history through sacred objects, which encompass the concepts of truth, goodness and beauty as promoted by Humanistic Buddhism.
